The challenge

GameChef wanted an editor for building and publishing games in the browser, without learning an engine first. Existing AI tools put thousands of lines into one file. That broke down as a game grew. Without a visual editor, even moving assets meant writing prompts, which was awkward and expensive. The tools also handled code, art or sound separately.

The editor needed to understand a game's structure and use a proven physics engine. GameChef wanted to edit scenes visually, as in Unity or Godot, with tools for code, art and sound in the same place.

What we built

The AI models didn't give game projects enough structure. Without guidance, thousands of lines ended up in one file. That stopped working as the game grew.

A prompt-only workflow doesn’t match how people make games. You need to shape a scene visually, move things by hand and see the result, rather than describing every change in text and paying per attempt.

Generated art still needs to become sprite sheets and animations the engine can use. That was a substantial part of the work.

To launch publicly, the tool needed a credit system, payments and a back office so usage could be metered, billed and managed.

The blueprint

  • Visual scene editor

    A browser editor similar to Unity or Godot. You drag assets into a scene and see the result immediately. Objects, layers and properties can be edited by hand. It uses a proven physics engine.

  • AI coding engine

    A coding agent that writes code in a structure the visual editor can read and change. It searches a library of code samples using vector search and uses them to guide each generation. A project template organises files into scenes and classes. That keeps the project manageable as it grows.

  • Art studio

    Generates art and animation frames, then converts them into sprite sheets the engine can use. They can be dropped straight into a scene.

  • Sound studio

    Generates sound effects for events in the game and music for scenes and menus.

  • Credits, payments & back office

    A credit system meters AI usage. Users buy credits through the payment integration. The back office handles accounts and operations.
